After the 60 minutes of regulation play remained goalless in the final, Australian goalkeeper Lovell denied Uthappa, Sunil and Surender in the penalty shoot-out to drive Australia to their 14th Champions Trophy title.

Indian hockey team will play a historic match against Australia on Saturday as they play their maiden final in the Champions Trophy hockey.

India's only podium finish until now was a bronze medal won way back in 1982 at Amsterdam. India will have to thank Britain, who rallied from a two goal deficit to hold Belgium 3-3 in a cliffhanger last evening.

India lost 2-4 against the title favourites Kookaburras in their last round robin encounter.
