1993 Mumbai Serial Blasts Case: 100 Convicted, 99 Sentenced and 1 Executed So Far

Out of the 100, 99 were handed out sentences for their involvement in 1993 Mumbai blasts case, while one was acquitted under Probation of Offenders Act (POA).

New Delhi: A special TADA court is likely to pronounce on Friday its judgment in the second leg of the trial in the 1993 Bombay serial blasts case involving seven accused, including extradited gangster Abu Salem.

On May 29, Judge GA Sanap of the Terrorism and Disruptive Activities (TADA) court had rejected an application filed by the lawyers for the seven accused seeking the date of pronouncement to be kept post Ramzan.

As the seven accused await the verdict, News18 takes you through the complete list of convictions awarded by the TADA court till now.

The court had in September 2006 convicted 100 and acquitted 23 accused. Of them, 99 were handed out sentences, while one was acquitted under the Probation of Offenders Act (POA). The first execution in the case was carried out in July 2015 when Yakub Memon was hanged in Nagpur jail.

Death Sentence:

1. Parvez Nasir Ahmed Shaikh: Planted bomb at Katha Bazar, Sea Rock Hotel
2. Mustaq Tarani: Planted bomb at Juhu Centaur
3. Abdul Gani Turk: Planted bomb at Century Bazar
4. Asgar Mukadam: Planted bomb at Plaza theatre
5. Shahnawaz Qureshi: planted bomb at Plaza theatre
6. Mohd Shoaib Ghansar: Planted bomb at Zaveri Bazar
7. Mohd Iqbal Mohd Yusuf Shaikh: Planted bomb at Naigaon
8. Zakir Hussain: Lobbed grenade at Mahim
9. Abdul Akhtar Khan: Lobbed grenade at Mahim
10. Firoz Amani Malik: Lobbed grenade at Mahim
11. Mohd Farooq Pawle: Bombed Air-India, Lucky Petrol pump and did recee of the Bombay Stock Exchange
12. Yakub Memon: Conspiracy, financing and aiding and facilitating terror act

Most of them had appealed to the Supreme Court against the death sentence. The apex court had confirmed the death sentence for Yakub Memon, but commuted the sentences of other convicts to life imprisonment.

Life Imprisonment:

9. Salim Mira Shaikh: Dighi landing, bribing police and customs officials
10. Sardar Shahavali Khan: Conspiracy, Al-Husseini, recee of BMC, Tiger's guard
