Deputy Commissioner Amitabh Kaushal said the summer vacation for private schools upto STD-V and for government schools upto STD-VIII have been extended till June 21 due to the prevailing heat condition.

Majority of the private as well as government schools were scheduled to be reopened on Monday.

Meanwhile, the steel city and adjacent areas continued to reel under intense heat wave with the mercury hovering above 42 degree Celsius on Saturday, MeT office sources said.

The maximum temperature here and the adjacent areas today was recorded at 42.3 degree Celsius, five notches above normal, and the minimum temperature registered at 28.2 degree Celsius, which was one degree above normal, it said.
