Earlier today, the national capital and its adjoining cities witnessed bucketing downpour that significantly brought temperatures down.

Did your inner pluviophile do a little cartwheel this morning, waking up to a riveting sight and the earthy scent of rain? Earlier today, the national capital and its adjoining cities witnessed bucketing downpour that significantly brought temperatures down. Much-needed respite, one would say. But the torrents also brought the city to a cessation, leaving it part inundated, part marooned.

Several parts of Delhi-NCR complained about severe waterlogging and traffic congestion. The incapacitating situation made for a harrowing experience, as office-goers and daily commuters waded their way through deep waters.

If anything, the annual monsoons unfailingly remind us of the civic inadequacy to deal with them. Befitting then, it becomes, to rename these popular places — keeping up with the petrichor, the incessant honking, the angst-ridden traffic and the deluge.
