New Delhi: AIADMK deputy general secretary TTV Dinakaran is scheduled to reach the national capital on Saturday to join an investigation into his alleged attempt to influence the symbol war within the party in his favour.

In midnight summons served this week, the Delhi Police had asked Dinakaran, the nephew of jailed party chief Sasikala, to appear at the office of the Delhi interstate crime branch on Saturday.

While Dinakaran travels to Delhi, party leaders back home will be working towards a merger of the rival O Panneerselvam and E Palaniswami factions. The Panneerselvam camp has set formal removal of Sasikala and Dinakaran as conditions for merger talks. The OPS camp has also sought a CBI probe into the circumstances leading to J Jayalalithaa's death on December 5 last year.

Panneerselvam had filled-in for Jayalalithaa as Chief Minister thrice in the past, twice when she had to go to jail in corruption cases and once when she was on her death bed. He had claimed he was coerced to step down by Sasikala after Jayalalithaa's death.

Chief Minister Palaniswami, his cabinet colleagues D Jayakumar, C Ve Shanmugham and SP Velumani, and Rajya Sabha MP R Vaithilingam discussed the demands in a hush-hush meeting on Friday.

Following the Cabinet's revolt against him early this week, Dinakaran had said he was "stepping aside" in the interest of the party.

He has been named in an FIR by the Delhi Police after the arrest of Sukesh Chandrashekhar, the alleged middleman in contact with Dinakaran. Police have said that the duo struck a Rs 50-crore deal to try and bribe officials from the Election Commission.
