Mumbai: Though October 11 is celebrated every year as megastar Amitabh Bachchan's birthday, the actor says he was reborn on August 2, 1982, the day he recovered from a near-fatal accident while filming his superhit film 'Coolie'.

"2nd August 1982!! The day I was revived after being clinically dead after 'Coolie' mishap... so Happy Birthday today with friends!," Bachchan, 68, said on micro-blogging site Twitter.

Bachchan, who was born on 11 October 1942, suffered a serious intestinal injury on July 26, 1982, while shooting a fight scene with co-actor Puneet Issar for the Manmohan Desai film in the University campus in Bangalore.

In the fight scene, Big B was required to fall onto a table and then on the ground. As he jumped towards the table, the corner of the table struck his abdomen. He remained critically ill in hospital for many months, at times close to death.

It took the actor a long time to recover and he resumed filming later that year after a period of recuperation.
