Asaduddin Owaisi's AIMIM to contest Bihar elections from Seemanchal region

Addressing a press conference, Owaisi said, "There are multiple fronts for the people of Bihar. Seemanchal region has been ignored by all major parties for decades. We want development of the region which is backward now."

New Delhi: Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday announced his party's intention to fight the upcoming Assembly elections in Bihar. All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen(AIMIM) will fight elections from the Seemanchal region of the state.

Addressing a press conference, Owaisi said, "There are multiple fronts for the people of Bihar. Seemanchal region has been ignored by all major parties for decades. We want development of the region which is backward now."

The area comprises Araria, Katihar, Purnia and Kishanganj districts and has a population of almost 1 crore, of which 40% are Muslims, with Kishanganj having 69% Muslim population.



The Bihar elections, which are going to be held in five phases starting October 12, is largely expected to be a direct fight between the NDA and the Mahagathbandhan consisting of Janata Dal United-Rashtriya Janata Dal-Congress partnership. JDU's Nitish Kumar is the chief ministerial candidate of the JDU-RJD-Congress alliance.
