Bangalore: Movie buffs are in for a bonanza when the fourth edition of Bengaluru International Film Festival (BIFF) gets underway here from December 15 to December 22.

"The event will further enhance the pride of Bangalore, acclaimed the world over for its strides in IT and Education sectors", Karnataka Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda told a press conference here after unveiling the film festival logo.

The logo showcases the emblem of Karnataka 'Gandaberunda' (a two-headed mythological bird). Speaking on the occasion he said people of the city, which

has a cosmopolitan culture, encourage films of various languages and exuded optimism that the festival would be a major success.

Karnataka produces annually around 100 films, he said and wanted the industry to focus on producing more art films. Gowda said the state's legislation to curb video piracy is pending Presidential assent and would be implemented as soon as it was received. Through it, government would invoke the provisions of Anti-Goonda Act to punish those guilty of indulging in piracy, he said.

Well known Kannada Film director and Chairman of Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy said about 250 films from all over the world have been received so far and at least 180 would be screened.

"The festival is expected to attract about 9000 delegates and will have four awards for World Cinema, Asian Cinema, Indian Cinema and Kannada Cinema categories," he said.

An international five member jury would choose the films for awards, Nagabharana said. Noted Iranian film director Dariush Mehrjuy, Dada Phalke awardee and veteran film maker K Balachander would be the chief guests.
