New Delhi: Dismayed over irregularities in the implementation of the Ex-servicemen Contributory Health Scheme, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) slammed the Defence Ministry for causing heavy monitory loss to the national exchequer.
The national auditor also highlighted the dubious practice committed by the empanelled hospitals by raising inflated bills for the treatment of indoor patients involving overpayment of Rs 3.51 crore.
While claiming that various deficiencies were noticed in short supply of medicines to the polyclinics, CAG said, "Irregular payment of Rs 23.61 crore made by Station Hqrs (ECHS Cell), Delhi Cantonment against the unaccounted bill involving double payments against a particular bill/duplicate bills."
The Ex-servicemen Contributory Health Scheme is to provide health care facility to nearly 47 lakh beneficiaries on a cashless treatment in 426 polyclinics, service hospitals and private empanelled hospitals across the country.
