Delhi Chief Secretary seeks speedy completion of Mandoli jail

Spread over 68 acres of land, Mandoli Jail will have a state-of-the-art building and would house 3,750 prisoners.

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Secretary DM Spolia has directed the Secretary of the Public Works Department to take steps to speed up the construction of the Mandoli jail complex in order to decongest Tihar Jail.

While carrying out an inspection at the under-construction jail, Spolia stressed on the need for speedy commissioning of Mandoli prison as Tihar Jail is facing massive overcrowding with about 12,000 prisoners lodged there against its capacity of 6,000 prisoners.

    Meanwhile, during a meeting, the DG (Prisons) informed the Chief Secretary that the matter has been taken up with the Chairman of Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board for early recruitment of 747 posts of different categories requisitioned for jail administration, said Delhi government officials.
