New Delhi: In an extraordinary hearing at 7.30pm on Friday evening, the Delhi High Court has sought explanation from Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and Bureau of Immigration over denying entry to a Franco-American woman entrepreneur.

Kasha Vande, 48, has been living in India for over a decade and runs 'Kasha Ki Aasha', an art boutique and cafe, in Puducherry. Kasha is also the founder of PondyArt, an initiative which she started in 2013 that uses art in public space to build awareness of public issues. An American citizen, she has a multiple entry valid business visa.

Kasha was detained at the Chennai Airport at 1.30am on Friday and she was told that since there was a mark on her file, she would have to go back.

Kasha then got in touch with her lawyer Kamlesh K Mishra, who then urgently filed a habeas corpus petition in the Delhi HC, attaching a copy of the email received from her about the incident.

The petition sought for an order to the authorities to immediately produce Kasha before the court.

Mishra mentioned the petition before the HC Registrar at 6 pm, and following a permission from the acting chief justice, the matter was listed urgently

Constituting a bench at 7.30 pm, a bench of Justices S Muralidhar and I S Mehta issued notices to the MEA and Bureau of Immigration, and sought their reply by Monday.
