CHENNAI: Urging artistes to honour organisations that invited them to award ceremonies by being present on the occasion, veteran director K Balachander on Saturday said, ‘’Awardees must not be under the impression that the organisations conducting such award ceremonies have other less important things to do.’’He was speaking at the Mylapore Academy’s 42nd Annual Awards Function held at the Sadhguru Gnanananda Hall.Awards were presented to the Best Tamil Dramas and Television serials made in the year 2010.Dr Justice A R Lakshmanan presented an award on behalf of the Mylapore Academy to director KB. The veteran director, who has been chosen for this year’s prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke Award, said,’’It is like a homecoming for me for I have received several awards from this academy.’’Over 55 awards were given away under various categories with the award for the best chat show in the TV segment going to Hasini Pesum Padam. The serial Thendral got several awards including the awards for best actor- Deepak, best actress- Shruthi and best music director Kiran. In the drama category, Thiruselvan won the All-rounder award winning three trophies including the Shivashankari silver rolling trophy for screenplay and dialogues. Several dignitaries including Justice N V Balasubramanian and Justice S Jagadeesan participated in the function.
