Lucknow: Two people were killed and several injured in a blast at an illegal firecracker godown in Kakori area on Monday morning.

According to preliminary information, the high-intensity blast occurred in the house of one Sanjay Lodhi, who had rented it out to Nasir Pathake Wale. Nasir, a wholesale dealer of firecrackers, was allegedly stocking them for Diwali.

Eyewitnesses identified the two deceased as Nasir and the owner of a factory adjacent to the blast site, adding that Nasir’s wife was missing.

As the news spread, IG Range Sujit Pandey and ADG Zone Rajiv Krishna arrived to take stock of the situation. Police and rescue teams, along with forensic officials, are trying to ascertain the reason behind the blast.

Officials of the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and UP Special Task Force (STF) are also expected to reach the spot.

Authorities said the death toll could rise once the debris is cleared.
