New Delhi: Everybody talked about the latent potential of Tigmanshu Dhulia before 2011 but somehow the talented director couldn't come up with many commercially successful films before 2011. 'Haasil' and 'Shagird' gave the idea of what to expect from Dhulia and then came 'Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster', which established Tigmanshu as a director to watch out for.
His next film 'Paan Singh Tomar' proved to be an instant critical and commercial success and Tigmanshu came into the league of the most sought after Bollywood directors. Now he is ready to go public with the sequel to 'Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster' with Jimmy Shergill, Mahie Gill, Soha Ali Khan and Irrfan in the lead roles.
The part two takes the story forward from where it was left in the original, which revolved around three characters entangled in a relationship that culminates in tragedy killing Randeep Hooda's character, confining Jimmy Sheirgill's to a wheelchair and letting Mahie Gill's character become powerful.
Said to be made on a budget of Rs 7 crore, 'Saheb Biwi...' is co-produced by Dhulia and Rahul Mittra.
Dhulia candidly admits in an interview given to IANS that his offering has the right amount of sensuality, which he feels is important to the story.
"There is sensuality, but in little measure. I feel that it is effective only like that. It (film) should have the right amount of sex and passion," he said.
Actress Mugdha Godse will be seen in an item number for the first time in Dhulia's directorial venture.
"As a writer and director of the franchise, I was not creatively satisfied with the first part. We wanted to exploit it after the first one became a hit," said Dhulia to PTI.
"It was made on a shoestring budget and could not bring out the royalty in an opulent way. There was so much masala still left in the film that we thought we should carry the story forward," he added further.
Irrfan is playing the role of Raja Bhaiyya in the film and going by his track record, expected to come up with another sparkling performance. Unfortunately, a homonymous politician from UP is currently in the news for all the wrong reasons.
The audience will go to the theatre with a pre-conceived notion about 'Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns' and they are bound to clap if their demands are satiated.(With inputs from IANS and PTI)####
