New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday delivered the inaugural address at the HT Leadership Summit which is being partnered by CNN-News18. Kicking off the two-day event in the national capital, PM Modi touched upon the reforms undertaken by the government and gave a glimpse of India’s development roadmap. He also invoked former president APJ Abdul Kalam’s words to urge the media to “shun negativity”.

Here are the PM’s top quotes from the summit:

— The government will now start a drive against benami properties using Aadhaar as a tool to track down suspicious financial transactions. We are moving towards a system through which black money is constantly reducing and integrating in our formal economy.

13

— Irreversible changes have been brought through Aadhaar number. It is a power through which the government is helping secure rights, subsidies for the poor. Such a system has been created which could not have been even dreamt about a few years ago.

15

— After demonetisation, a behavioural change has come to India. You can feel it for yourself. For the first time after Independence, the corrupt are feeling the heat.

— I know through all these steps I've taken, the path I've started walking on, there is a political price I will have to pay, but I'm ready to pay it.

9

— Gita says shun negativity. The confidence we see in people today is irreversible. Two years ago at this forum, we were discussing ‘Towards a Bright India’. Today, we are talking about ‘Irreversible Rise India.

— The question is raised, though, as to why our media is so negative. Why are we doubting our own potential and achievements? We have such a vibrant history but we deny ourselves the pride. I am quoting President APJ Abdul Kalam, who said that 'if you scholars find it right, then you should discuss it in your seminars'

2

— Indians abroad are holding their heads high and claiming to be from here. Slogans like 'Ab ki Baar Cameron Sarkaar', 'Ab ki Baar Trump Sarkaar' shows how Indian politics has become global. In 2022, we would be celebrating 75 years of our independence and we should all have achieved a lot of what we wanted to, together

6

— Our diplomacy has changed the world for better. When Bhutan suffered due to an earthquake, Sri Lanka with floods, Maldives was hit by water shortage, India rushed to help. When Yemen was in trouble, India not only saved 400 of its citizens, it also helped around 2000 people from other nationalities

5

— Earlier, headlines would be about out 'policy paralysis' and the world would call us part of the 'fragile five'. Now, look where we are. Countries, big and small, want to walk with us shoulder-to-shoulder. When a country stands with confidence, then words like reversible and irreversible are kept aside. These classifications don't matter.
