New Delhi: Veteran Bollywood actor and Rajya Sabha MP Hema Malini has declined the Commerce Ministry's request to accompany a government delegation to Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.
Hema was extended an invitation by Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh to join the government delegation to these countries where her films remain extremely popular among the people.
"Keeping in view her tremendous popularity and appeal in both the countries on account of her films like Seeta Aur Geeta and Sholay, Ramesh extended an invitation to Malini to also join the delegation," a Commerce Ministry statement was quoted by PTI.
However, the BJP MP is busy campaigning for the party in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the Assembly elections. The noted film and dance artiste had to decline because of her election campaign commitments in UP.
Hema has recorded special messages to the people of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, which Ramesh would hand over to his counterparts. India is keen on enhancing collaboration with these countries in the field of education and culture.
Ramesh is leading a multi-sectoral delegation to Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan from April 10-16.
