Kerala Student, India's First Covid-19 Patient in 2020, Contracts Virus Again

It was on January 30, 2020 that the third-year medical student from Wuhan university tested positive for coronavirus, becoming the country's first COVID-19 patient, days after she had returned home following semester holidays.

A medical student from Kerala, who was the first to test positive for Covid-19 in India, has again contracted the virus, health authorities said on Tuesday.

The woman, a medical student at a university in Wuhan, China, was tested positive for the second time following her return to Delhi.

According to the Thrissur DMO Dr Reena KJ, the woman is asymptomatic and has been quarantined at her home. Her situation is being closely monitored. She is not yet vaccinated.

After nearly three weeks of treatment at the Thrissur Medical College Hospital, she had tested negative twice for the virus, confirming her recovery, and was discharged on February 20, 2020.
