Brahma Kumaris join yoga enthusiasts at Red Fort lawns
The lawns of the Red Fort today turned into a sea of white as a huge gathering of yoga enthusiasts including followers of Brahma Kumaris joined to celebrate the International Day of Yoga. Braving rains, around 50,00 women and men, all clad in white, converged at the venue and participated in the mass yoga event organised by the Brahma Kumaris.
Earlier today, conveying his greetings to all those who joined the international Yoga Day 2017 celebrations across India and the world, Prime Minister Modi said Yoga's immense popularity outside India is high and has connected the world with India. "I am happy to see so many Yoga institutes being opened over the last three years. Demand for Yoga teachers is increasing. Apart from fitness, wellness is important. Yoga is a medium to achieve wellness," PM Modi said.
Celebrating International Yoga Day with the people of New Delhi, at an event organised by NDMC, Union Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu said Yoga is our tradition, it's our culture. Connaught Place barricaded to thwart London-style attacks
The Delhi Police had received intelligence inputs about some terror outfits planning a "London-style attack" during the International Yoga Day celebrations at Connaught Place. In view of the alert warning of the attack similar to the one in London recently in which a man had ploughed a van into people, the police had barricaded with buses the entry points of roads leading to Connaught Place, sources said.
The police had only left some space for pedestrians to pass through, the sources said. This had been done to ensure that even if a vehicle tried to enter the area, it would end up ramming into these empty buses, they added.
A three-tier security layer was thrown around the area to enhance the vigil, a senior police officer said, adding, that snipers were also stationed on certain buildings to keep a hawk eye vigil.
Unlike in the past two years, there were multiple venues across the UAE for International Yoga Day. Thousands of people of different age and nationality, and health-conscious residents laid down their mats, relaxed and communed with nature to participate on Yoga Day.

South Africa celebrates international Yoga Day
Over 1,200 yoga enthusiasts in South Africa's Soweto township got their first taste of yoga on Wednesday, when they performed various 'asanas' at an event on the eve of International Day of Yoga.
The Consulate General of India in Johannesburg along with the volunteers of the Art of Living Foundation and yoga school trainers organised the event at a park in the township.
The participants included hundreds of school children who got their first taste of yoga.
Not just India, the world yoga day has overwhelming response from across the globe.

The Indian Tibetan Border police also celebrated Yoga day and not in ordinary conditions. The jawans performed Yoga at the temperature of minus 25 degrees celcius in Ladakh. The jawans performing yoga in such extreme weather conditions definitely is the most precious response to the auspicious occasion of International Yoga Day.
