Work at government offices was affected as a section of Jammu and Kashmir employees went on a five-day strike on Tuesday to press for their various demands.

The employees' trade union, which called the strike, wants enhancing of retirement age from 58 to 60 years, regularisation of daily-wage workers, casual labourers and need-based workers engaged after 1994, removal of pay anomalies and budgetary support for public sector.

In Jammu, employees assembled at the Divisional Commissioner Office and held a demonstration before submitting a memorandum about their demands. Similar protests were reported from various other districts of the state.

The protesting employees accused the state government of back-tracking on the agreement reached with the JCC in 2011, and playing delay tactics over the matter.
