Kochi corporation starts 'microchipping' pet dogs

In the first phase of the initiative. 500 pet dogs out of estimated 12,000 will be microchipped.

In a novel initiative, Kochi Corporation has started microchipping pet dogs in the city and is issuing licenses for them. The details of the animal- age, dates of vaccinations, owner etc will be available in the chip which can be read using a hand-held scanner.

According to reports, out of the estimated 12000 dogs in the city, 500 will be microchipped in the first phase of the initiative for which Rs 100 will be charged from the owners.

The civic authority, via this initiative, aims to cover all the pet dogs within city limits for which separate database will be maintained.
