A two-year-old boy was killed and a six-year-old boy was seriously injured after they were thrown off from the fourth floor of a building by their neighbour in Kolkata’s Burrabazar area on Sunday evening.
The accused has been identified as 55-yar-old Shiv Kumar Gupta. He was arrested and taken to the Lalbazaar police headquarters by the officers of the homicide section for interrogation.
Speaking to the News18, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), Murlidhar Sharma, said, “During interrogation, he confessed his crime. It is unfortunate that a two-year-old boy was killed, while another received serious injuries.”
He said, “The injured victim is stable and based on the interrogation we have arrested his neighbour Shiv Kumar Gupta.”
When asked about the motive, Sharma said the neighbour was annoyed with the children for making noise while playing.
"A few days ago he had a fight with the boys but their parents intervened and amicably resolved the matter. Today around 6 pm, Shiv once again became furious after the children went to the fourth floor to play. In a fit of rage, he went to the fourth floor and hurled both the children from the fourth floor.”
The younger boy was declared brought by a nearby hospital, while the other is recovering fast and is stable, Sharma added.
"Inquiry revealed that Shiv would often get into fights with his neighbours,” he said.
Meanwhile, the residents demanded stern action against the accused. They also tried to manhandle the accused but he was taken to the police headquarters for interrogation.
