Kolkata: A student of St. Paul's Cathedral Mission College in Kolkata has lodged a police complaint alleging that he was ragged by a student union leader, along with others who forced him to parade naked after he asked them about the union funds.

The incident took place on May 29 when the victim – secretary of the student's welfare unit of the college — went to the union room to enquire about the utilisation of funds with the student body president, Arnab Ghosh.

In the meantime, Inamul Haq, an outsider and a friend of Arnab intervened and led to a heated argument followed by the assault. The victim was allegedly manhandled for enquiring about the funds. According to the victim, the accused’s friends caught him from behind and removed his clothes.

Not only was he paraded naked, but the act was also recorded causing the victim further humiliation. In the video, the victim is seen running across the room, desperately trying to cover himself and pleading for mercy.

He was only allowed to leave with a warning that he will "not interfere" in matters of union funds and its utilisation.

“I was in trauma for the last few days, but finally decided to lodge a police complaint yesterday after I saw my videos being shared with other students. I was shocked and decided to lodge a complaint,” the victim told News18.

In his complaint, the victim said, “The college unit president Arnab Ghosh and an outsider Inamul Haq, physically and mentally tortured me. While doing so, they also shot objectionable videos and photographs of me without my permission. When I asked Arnab about the expenditure list, he along with another person, Avijit Dolui assaulted me and shared the videos with my friends and colleagues in college.”

He added, “All three offenders were drunk and I want a strict punishment for them. I was forced to parade naked."

West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee on Sunday said "strict action" will be taken against anyone found involved in the act.

"If the allegations were found to be true in the inquiry report of the college, the government will show 'zero tolerance' to such misconduct," Chatterjee told PTI.

The first-year student, who claimed to be a member of the Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) unit of the college, told that he was subjected to torture by some senior members of the students' wing when he inquired about the expenses incurred for arranging an upcoming fest in the college.
