Kupwara Army Camp Attack Live: Angry Protesters Raise Slogans | April 27, 2017, 3:50 PM IST

In an Uri-style attack, militants targeted an army camp in Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Thursday morning, killing at least three soldiers, including an Army officer.

Two terrorists have been eliminated and combing operations are underway with sources saying the casualty count was feared to rise.

How the Kupwara attack happened:

* 3 terrorists come down from the firing range side that hugs a hill.

* They breached 2 layers of fencing, then come inside the camp.

* First engagement was with the perimeter patrol party that consists of 4 to 5 personnel. 

* This is where one of the army jawans lost his life. 

* Then the terrorists went further in.

* 7 minutes of intense firing took place.

* 3 casualties on our side.

* 2 terrorists killed.

* The soldier who killed both the terrorists is injured.

* 3 AKs have been recovered which proves that 3 terrorists were present. 

* 1 Chinese pistol. 
* 1 UBGL. 
* Matrix/ Map sheet + 2 GPSs. 
* 1 Cellphone.

The three jawans who lost their life in Kupwara attack died in the first burst of fire by the terrorists. The engagement which lasted for 7 minutes. The firing that started at 4:30 last for 30 minutes.

The meeting which was chaired by Rajnath Singh on the Kupwara attack was attended by officials of 15 departments including defence, social justice, water, home etc... This is a follow-up of Mehbooba Mufti-PM Modi-Home Minister's meeting...Development, fund disbursement and law and order in agenda

This attack comes days after Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had a dicussion with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh to improve the situation in the valley.

The Valley has witnessed a string of violent incidents this month starting with clashes between civilians and security forces and in the run-up to the Srinagar bypolls on April 9. Videos filmed during the unrest have further fuelled tensions in the area. The PDP-BJP government in the state had on Wednesday banned 22 social networking sites and applications, including Facebook, WhatsApp and Twitter in Kashmir on the grounds that these were being misused to fan trouble.

Army sources have now confirmed that three soldiers — an officer, a junior commissioned officer and a jawan — have been killed in the attack. Sources had earlier said that five soldiers had been killed.
