A policeman was killed and a civilian injured when militants opened fire on a security patrol in Anantnag district of south Kashmir on Monday, officials said.
Unidentified militants opened fire on a police patrol party at village Khudwani, 62 kms from Srinagar around 1 PM on Monday, killing a cop - constable Salamatullah, the officials said. They said a civilian, Sheraz Ahmad Naikoo, was also injured in the the brief shooting and was hospitalised.
The militants escaped from the scene in the face of retaliation, the officials said, adding a hunt has been launched to nab them. No militant outfit has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
