A group of people on Monday night ransacked a police station in Telangana's Marredpally district after a man who had been taken into police custody died under mysterious circumstances.
The family and locals have blamed the police for his death and accused that they thrashed the victim to death.
Victim Bannappa was detained and taken to the police station following the scuffle which took place during the local 'Bonalu' festival on Sunday, a police official said, adding that he was later sent away.
The man, however, died on Monday, after which the residents of his locality damaged the Marredpally police station alleging that police was responsible for his death.
The angry mob set police vehicles and files on fire. Hyderabad Police Commissioner Mahender Reddy said an investigation has been ordered into the incident.
