New Delhi: As the central government, under PM Narendra Modi completes four years, citizens feel the Ministry of Defence has been the best performing unit.

A survey conducted by LocalCircles, wherein over 10,000 ratings were submitted, showed that most citizens rated MoD 4.9 out of 5. The Ministry of External Affairs came in second with a rating of 4.2.

Overall, only 16 out of 49 ministries received a citizen rating of 3.5 and above. Ministry of Labour & Employment and Ministry of Agriculture was voted as the worst performing unit with a rating of 2.1 out of 5.

LocalCircles, on the basis of comments from respondents, deduced that most people lauded the MoD for its handling of Pakistan, countering terrorism, increase in budgetary spends on defence etc. Surgical strikes too, according to the survey, have led to a higher rating for the ministry.

Respondents rated the MEA taking into account its work in the Middle East and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj’s active presence on social media, including her personal interest in various cases of Indians across the world, have also proved to be a game changer.

“With the rate of unemployment being high, citizen rating of the Labour & Employment ministry was almost obvious. Although the extension of maternity leaves was received well by the citizens, not enough new jobs being created for the youth was a major point of discontent among citizens,” stated the LocalCircles report.

According to the survey, citizens have also voiced their discontent over the condition of farmers and the growing rate of farmer suicides, thus leading to dismal ratings of the Ministry of Agriculture.
