New Delhi: His hand was bleeding after being hit by a bullet, but that did not desist Naik Rishi from launching a retaliatory strike on the terrorists who attacked the Kupwara Army camp on Thursday.

The brave soldier, who neutralised two terrorists single-handedly, took position and fired at the third terrorist who was trying to escape the spot.

Soon, Rishi ran out of ammunition. He then picked up a rifle of one of the slain militants and fought valiantly to protect his base. However, the third fidayeen terrorist managed to flee the spot.

The 26-year-old soldier was on sentry duty when the gunbattle started. He hails from Arrah in Bihar and has been in service for eight years.

Speaking to CNN-News 18 he said, "I killed two militants and recovered two firearms from them. After being hit by a bullet my colleagues brought me to hospital. Now I am fit and ready to fight again."

Rishi, a housekeeper of 155 field regiment, was initially hit on his head but was saved, thanks to his patka (head gear). This Naik saved the day for the Indian Army.

Three soldiers were killed and five injured when militants attacked an Army camp in Chokibal area of Kupwara district in Jammu and Kashmir early on Thursday.

Sources said the search for the third terrorist is still on. The militants are suspected to be from Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed.

Sources had earlier said that five soldiers were killed in the attack, but later said three had been martyred.

The Army recovered three AK 47 rifles, one Chinese pistol and a grenade launcher. Two GPS devices, one mobile phone and maps were also recovered.

The Valley has witnessed a string of violent incidents this month starting with clashes between civilians and security forces in the run-up to the Srinagar bypolls on April 9.
