In case you missed it

Madhya Pradesh is voting: Voting has begun for the 230-member Assembly in Madhya Pradesh with 1.80 lakh security personnel deployed on duty to ensure peaceful polling in the state, where the ruling BJP and opposition Congress will vie for supremacy. The BJP is eyeing a fourth straight term in office, while the Congress is hoping for a comeback in the state which was once its stronghold. Follow our live blog here.

The Congress has promised to provide free electricity to churches and mosques, monthly payments to imams and pastors and several other sops to minority communities in Telangana in a draft manifesto as it goes all out in a battle for their votes with K Chandrashekar Rao. The draft of the manifesto, which has been accessed by News18, has promised several schemes tailored for the minorities, especially Muslims, which account for nearly 12.5% of Telangana’s population and act as the deciding factor in at least 42 out of its 119 assembly constituencies. More on that, here.

On Tuesday, Telangana saw a pitched between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and caretaker chief minister K Chadrashekar Rao as both the leaders levelled allegations against each other. Accusing the TRS and Congress of perpetuating family rule, Modi said the two parties were playing a “friendly match” in Telangana elections. Recalling that KCR had served as a minister in the UPA government, Modi said the TRS chief did his 'apprenticeship' under the Congress.

In other news

Days after Congress leader Raj Babbar kicked up a row by launching a personal attack at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and comparing the devaluation of rupee to his mother’s age, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has waded into the debate and said that it would be ideal for India if the “charisma” of political dynasties were “completely shattered”. Responding to the charges of another Congress leader, Vilas Muttemwar, that "no one knows about PM Modi's father”, Jaitley said in a Facebook post that he posed three questions to his acquaintances but never got a definite answer to any. His questions were: “What is the name of Gandhiji’s father; What is the name of Sardar Patel’s father; What is the name of Sardar Patel’s wife?”

From the outside, 16, Sawai Pratap Singh Road in Civil Lines area of Jaipur, looks like an important address. The location (just across the street from Raj Bhavan), the high red walls, and the plaque that reads 'His Highness Maharaja of Jaipur Household' are dead giveaways. But one wouldn't know just how important, even if they walked inside. It is because Princess Diya Kumari's private residence repurposed as the BJP media centre for Rajasthan Assembly elections doesn't give away much. This is how BJP war room soldiers keep Rajasthan netas from falling into 'media traps'.

A drama at a school-fest in Kerala has triggered controversy for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments. Muslim organisations have come out in protest against the drama, ‘Kithab'.

Activist Rehana Fathima was arrested on Tuesday by the Pathanamthitta police on the charges of hurting religious sentiments with a Facebook post, over a month after she was forced to abort her attempt to enter the Sabarimala temple in the face of violent protests.

Agree or disagree?

Google trends has been able to correctly predict a streak of election results which has puzzled and befuddled the best of pollsters. Google had correctly predicted that BJP will win in Gujarat. Based on Google trends of last 60 days prior to polling, the BJP were favoured to win. Google had also predicted that BJP will win in UP, Congress in Punjab, JD(U) and RJD alliance in Bihar and AAP in Delhi. A hit rate which convincingly beats many erudite poll pundits. Animesh Pandey and Abbin Theepura write why netas should use data where Google steps into play.

Breaking her silence on being dropped from the playing XI for the World T20 semi-final against England, Mithali Raj has lashed out at Committee of Administrators' (CoA) member Diana Edulji and coach Ramesh Powar in a scathing letter to BCCI CEO Rahul Johri and Cricket Operations General Manager Saba Karim.
