SC to issue verdict on Rafale probe today
Supreme Court to decide today whether further probe is required in the Rafale case today. The three member bench headed by Chief Justice of India Rajan Gogoi have been deliberating over the controversy involving the sale of 36 fighter aircraft by France to India. The Central was accused of corruption by petitioners Prashant Bhushan, Yashwant Sinha and Arun Shourie in matters related to the quantity and cost of the fighter jets. Questions were also been raised about the government's alleged push to involve Anil Ambani's Reliance as an offset partner. The verdict will be announced at 10.30.
Opposition to focus on farmer crisis and three other issues in Winter Session
Opposition have zeroed on four particular issues for the ongoing Winter session of the Parliament. In a meeting held yesterday Opposition leaders decided on a strategy that will particularly focus on the farmer's crisis, "attack" on institutions like the CBI and RBI, the Rafale controversy and the surge in prices. The opposition parties included Congress, Trinamool Congress, the SP, Left parties. The third day of the session yesterday had to be called off amidst protests from the opposition over several issues.
BJP calls for bandh in Kerala over the Sabrimala issue
The Kerala unit of the BJP called for a dawn to dusk bandh after a man succumbed to his injuries from an attempted self-immolation. The incident took place near the BJP's Sabrimala protest venue at Thiruvananthapuram. BJP has blamed the Kerala Chief Minister for the death of the man who they claim was an upset devotee. In the past few months, the state has witnessed a number of protest around the Supreme Court's verdict allowing the entry of women in the temple. Attack on TMC MLA car in South 24 Parganas leaves three dead
Shootout at a petrol pump in Joynagar in South 24 Parganas, a district in West Bengal, has left three dead. The attack took place last evening when a group of gunmen surrounded the vehicle of TMC MLA Biswanath Das. Das, was not present in the vehicle at the time of the attack. The three deceased were identified as the driver of the vehicle, a local person and a local TMC worker.
