NRHM scam: HC rejects bail plea of ex-UP minister, another accused

The Allahabad High Court on Monday rejected the bail plea of former Uttar Pradesh minister Babu Singh Kushwaha and another accused in the multi-crore NRHM scam.

They are facing trial before a CBI court for alleged irregularities in the implementation of the scheme during the previous Mayawati government in the state.

Justice Dharnidhar Jha rejected the bail applications of Kushwaha as well as BN Srivastava, the then Project Manager (construction), both of whom have been named in the charge sheet submitted by the CBI with regard to irregularities in upgrading of more than 100 government hospitals covered under the National Rural Health Mission.

The petitioners had alleged that they have been falsely implicated in the case and that they were languishing in jail despite the CBI's inability to produce any evidence against them before the trial court at Ghaziabad.

However, the court dismissed their plea observing that allegations against them were "serious in nature" and hence they could not be released on bail.
