The Bihar Cabinet gave its approval to the new scheme named "Parvarish" at a meeting on Tuesday evening presided over by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Principal Secretary Cabinet Coordination Brajesh Mehrotra said. As per the programme of Social Welfare department, children upto six years of age who are orphan and those whose parents are suffering from leprosy and HIV-AIDS would be given a monthly allowance of Rs 900 each, Mehrotra said. Those in above six year upto 18 years would be given Rs 1000 in the same category.

Bihar Social Welfare Minister Parveen Amanullah told PTI that the scheme reflects the state government's sensitivity towards poor and destitute. She said with the Cabinet giving green signal to the programme, it would come into action soon. The state cabinet okayed a sum of Rs 23.25 crore for making the scheme operational in the current financial year.
