Islamabad: Former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf on Thursday suffered a massive heart attack and had to be rushed to a hospital. Musharraf was taken to hospital when he complained of heart ache while on his way to a court to face trial in a high treason case.

Musharraf's party, the All Pakistan Muslim League, confirmed that he was conscious but had been admitted in the Critical Care Unit of the hospital.

The former military ruler had on Tuesday filed an appeal against the special court formed to try him in the high treason charges for imposing emergency in 2007.

The petition asked the High Court to restrict the special court from functioning and said Musharraf should get a fair trial. Therefore, the trial should be carried out by a military court, it said.
