Hyderabad business tycoon failed kidnap case: Police arrest a former CRPF constable as main accused

The former CRPF constable, Obulesh, was arrested by the police on the border between Kurnool and Anantapur districts on Wednesday night from a Bangalore-bound bus.

Hyderabad: After a vice chairman of Aurobindo Pharmaceuticals was shot at by an assailant armed with an AK-47 in Banjara Hills in Hyderabad, the police on Thursday detained a former CRPF constable as the main accused in the case. The constable was part of a CRPF team which had misplaced the AK-47 rifle.

The former CRPF constable, Obulesh, was arrested by the police on the border between Kurnool and Anantapur districts on Wednesday night from a Bangalore-bound bus.

Three others were also arrested in the sensational case. They are being brought to Hyderabad and are likely to be produced before media in the afternoon or evening, police sources said.

The constable, who was serving at Central Police Lines (CPL) Amberpet here, was earlier attached with Greyhounds, the elite anti-Maoist force and was allegedly involved in stealing AK-47.

The constable tried to kidnap K. Nityananda Reddy, vice-chairman of Aurobindo Pharma, when the latter returned to his car after the morning walk at KBR Park on Wednesday. However, the executive and his brother resisted his attempts.

In the scuffle, he fired about 10 rounds and fled leaving behind the firearm and a bag. No one was hurt in the incident, which sent panic among VIPs who throng the park.

The police took the case seriously as AK-47 which went missing from Greyhounds late last year was used.

Working on the clues and based on the statements of Nityananda Reddy and his brother, investigators prepared a sketch of the accused of the accused and released it on Wednesday evening.
