New Delhi: Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Thursday introduced a string of measures to improve the cleanliness on stations and trains. He has proposed setting up of waste segregation and recycling centers at A1 stations in a phased manner.

While presenting the Railway Budget in Parliament, he said 30000 bio-toilets will be provided by the next financial year. The Railway Minister has proposed to undertake awareness campaigns to improve cleanliness at select stations, station approach roads and adjacent colonies.

He also said that portable bio toilets will be provided at all platforms of select stations to cater to the demand of senior citizens, persons with disabilities and women passengers.

Prabhu said 'Clean my Coach' service on Pan India basis will be introduced, where a passenger can request cleaning of his/her coach/toilets on demand through SMS. A1 and A classes of stations are ranked based on periodic third party audit and passenger feedback.

In pursuance of the objectives of 'Accessible India Campaign', he said Railways will ensure that all stations are made disabled friendly. He said that at least one disabled friendly toilet in all platforms in A1 class stations will be built.

The Railway Minister has also announced one-time registration for the persons with disabilities for availing concessions while booking tickets online. Online booking of wheelchairs and Braille enabled new coaches were also introduced for the persons with disabilities.
