Bengaluru: The Narendra Modi government is trying hard to crack down on VIP culture through various measures, but it seems the BJP government is Rajasthan is not on the same page. The Vasundhara Raje dispensation wants a VVIP airport for dignitaries like the Chief Minister and the Governor.

Minister of State Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha on Tuesday mentioned this in a written reply in Rajya Sabha.

As per the reply the Airport Authority of India (AAI) has offered 2.5 acres of land for a VVIP terminal. The state government has a fleet of 3-4 aircraft which will also be parked here.

According to AAI sources, this is a normal practice as there are security threats to VVIPs and they need a separate entry and exit. “This is not a case special to Jaipur, it is there in Patna and Lucknow also. The land belongs to the state government and they can use it how they want.” added the source.

The plan of constructing a VIP terminal is at a preliminary stage, so the cost of the project is unknown. Sources said the cost of the project will be borne by the state government.

The Modi government had decided to do away with red beacons from all vehicles from May 1. “The red beacon used to be fixed atop a vehicle but slowly and steadily it permeated into the psyche and got firmly entrenched in the mindset. The red beacon has gone for good but nobody can say with certainty that it has also disappeared from the mindset," Modi had said.

“The concept behind the 'New India' is that EPI should replace VIP. EPI means Every Person is Important. We should accept the importance of 125 crore Indians,” the PM added.
