Srinagar/ New Delhi: The local administration in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district on Wednesday closed several schools as a precautionary measure after Pakistani troops initiated unprovoked and indiscriminate firing on Indian posts and forward villages along the LoC.

According to reports, the local police and district administration rescued several students and teachers who were trapped in three schools close to the LoC during a deadly rain of mortar shells from Pakistan on Tuesday.

No casualties have been reported so far. Empty brass shells of bullet casings were discovered lying on several school premises.

Indian Army jawans responded to Pakistani firing with equal calibre weapons after a school in Noweshra sector came under enemy firing.

On July 16, Pakistan's army said four of its soldiers drowned in a river in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) after their vehicle was hit by shelling by Indian troops and plunged into the river Neelum.
