A security guard who was badly injured after being hit by a delivery van died on the road in west Delhi's Hari Nagar area. He remained unattended despite several passersby seeing him writhing in pain and one of them even went near him to take away his mobile phone, said the police.

A security guard who was hit by a delivery van lay dying on a road in West Delhi but no one came to his help for more than an hour, police said Thursday. Worse, CCTV footage showed a rickshaw-puller stop to steal the man's mobile phone as he lay writhing in pain.

35-year-old Matibul was walking back to his home near Tihar village when he was hit by a delivery van in the early hours of Wednesday.

The footage, captured on a camera installed near Miraj cinema in Subhash Nagar, showed the driver of the delivery van get down and inspect before casually driving away. He has not yet been identified.

The video then showed several people walk by without bothering to help and a rickshaw-puller stealing his mobile phone, a police officer said. Police said they received information about a body lying on the road in Subhash Nagar at 7 AM, following which a team rushed to the spot and took it for autopsy. The victim was a native of West Bengal and lived in a rented accomodation. near Tihar village.
