Srinagar: An armyman was killed and another injured when they came under heavy gunfire from militants in the dense forests of Rajawar in North Kashmir on Wednesday night.
The army and police personnel were in pursuit of suspected Lashker-e-Taiba terrorists hiding in the forests in Handwara district, official sources said.
The army troops came under heavy fire when they were conducting a cordon and search operation, the sources said, adding one jawan was killed and another injured.
The troops also returned fire. Reinforcement of army and police has been rushed to the area and the operation is continuing.
