A teenage girl was trapped in a lift for more than three hours, before she was rescued and admitted to a hospital in Thane in an unconcious condition, fire brigade sources said. Pooja Jadhav (15) who resides on the seventh floor of the BSUP Housing Complex in the Tulsidham locality of the city was taking the lift, when it developed a snag mid-way and stopped functioning all off a sudden.
She raised an alarm and occupants of the building made an attempt to open the lift's doors, but in vain. Finally, the doors of the lift was cut open after the fire brigade was alerted and the girl who had fainted due to suffocation and lack of fresh air, was rescued.
The substandard quality of lifts in BSUP buildings of the Thane Municipal Corporation has once again come in for criticism by locals, who have already challenged the quality of the buildings.
