Los Angeles: Hollywood star Tom Cruise is reportedly all set to play the lead in a big-budget sci-fi war project, 'We Mortals Are'.

The film which was previously known as 'All You Need Is Kill' is being produced by Warner Brothers and prior to Cruise the role was offered to Brad Pitt, the Hollywood Reporter reported.

"The studios are interested in him again," a producer said.

Last month, the production house wanted Pitt along with his 'Mr and Mrs Smith' director Doug Liman but the plan did not go through.

Pitt was reportedly in dilemma whether to accept the role because the studio also wants him to be in 'The Mission'.

Cruise will play a young Army recruit who dies on the battlefield against an alien invasion. The film is based on the Japanese manga by Hiroshi Sakurazaka and would be released in 2013.
