Traffic Cop Takes Rs 1 Lakh Bribe in Scrapped Notes, Held

A traffic constable was on Thursday arrested for allegedly accepting Rs 1.15 lakh bribe in scrapped currency notes from a man who wanted no objection certificate (N)C) for a parking facility at his restaurant.

Pune: A traffic constable was on Thursday arrested for allegedly accepting Rs 1.15 lakh bribe in scrapped currency notes from a man who wanted no objection certificate (N)C) for a parking facility at his restaurant.

Sohanlal Chutele (53), attached to Koregaon Park Traffic branch, was held by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials. As per an ACB release, the file related to the complainant's restaurant-cum-bar had come to the traffic branch for NOC.

"The complainant was seeking no objection certificate for the parking facility from Koregaon Park traffic division. To give a positive feedback, Chutele allegedly demanded Rs 1.15 lakh from him," it said.

"He even agreed to accept the bribe amount in scrapped Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 banknotes," the release said.

The complainant then approached the ACB and subsequently a trap was laid. Chutele was arrested red-handed while accepting the bribe amount outside Koregaon Park traffic division and a case was registered against him, it said.
