The Indore-Patna Express train accident has once again raised questions on railway safety in the country.

Rail fracture is the mostly cause of Sunday’s accident near Kanpur which claimed at least 100 lives.

- 26 November 1998: Khanna rail disaster (212 deaths)

- 2 August 1999: Collision of Awadh–Assam Express and Brahmaputra Mail (268 deaths)

- 20 August 1995: Firozabad rail disaster (358 deaths)
