‘Triple Talaq’ bill and Rafale to be raised in Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha today
The Upper House in today’s session will take up the issue of the controversial ‘Triple Talaq’ bill. On Monday, the house was adjourned amidst disruptions over the bill. The BJP-led government have rejected Congress’ demand for a select committee to preside over the passing of the bill. Meanwhile, the Rafale issue is likely to be raised by the opposition in the Lok Sabha.
NRC counting still on with almost 30 lakh claims by those left out
Assam’s National Register of Citizens is being processed for name corrections and other details after the final draft appeared with the names of 2.89 crore out of the 2.39 crore applicants. Atleast, 30 lakh of the more than 40 lakh people left out in the National Register have filed for inclusion under the ‘claims and objection’ process. Many who have been excluded from the final draft are people belong to indigenous communities like Rabha, Bodo, Koch, Rajbonshi and refugee families and communities.
VHP to hold press conference on Ram Mandir issue today
The Vishwa Hindu Parishad will hold a press conference at noon today on the issue of the Ram Mandir. The press conference, which comes a day after Prime Minister Modi’s comments that an ordinance on the Ram Temple can be brought in only after the Supreme Court has ruled on the issue. Immediately after PM Modi’s comments RSS leader Dattatreya Hosabale wrote in a tweet saying that PM was voted in because the BJP had promised to explore all avenues to have the temple built. The tweet was deleted soon after. VHP’s working president, Shri Alok Kumar will address today’s conference.

Members of BJP/ RSS in Chethuva, Kerala attacked women who came to participate in ‘Women's wall’ yesterday to oppose the BJP’s protests against the apex court ruling on the Sabrimala issue. The BJP-RSS activists chased away the women by burning a paddy field and hurling stones at them. Over 50 lakh women turned up yesterday in a display of solidarity against the right-wing Hindu groups who want the ruling against the ban on women’s entry into the temple to be revoked. The 15 minute event stretched out over 620 kilometres.

UP cabinet approves to 2% ‘cow welfare cess’
Uttar Pradesh cabinet on Tuesday agreed to a proposal to levy a 2% ‘cow welfare cess’. The ‘cow welfare cess’ will be used to construct shelters for the cows in all districts, gram panchayats, municipalities, municipal corporation and other local bodies. A budget of Rs.100 crores has been sanctioned for this aim under the MNREGA.
On Tuesday, lakhs of people visited the village of Bhima Koregaon in Maharashtra on the 201st anniversary of the Battle of Bhima Koregaon where an army of 830 Mahars defeated 28000 Peshwas.
