The man was caught with a gun and ammunition at the Chennai airport.

New Delhi: A US citizen has been caught with a gun and ammunition at the Chennai airport. The weapons were in his luggage which he presented for screening.

The Chennai Police have arrested the American traveller after he failed show valid documents for the arms.

The American citizen had come from Delhi to Chennai and was about to board a Jet flight when he was stopped.

Interestingly the arms and ammunition were not detected at the Delhi airport from where he had taken the flight to Chennai.

Meanwhile, the American consulate in Chennai said the law doesn't allow it to comment on any ongoing case against an American citizen.

American Consulate Official, William E Web said, "The Privacy Act does not permit me to comment on any on going case against an American citizen."

  • May 25: American citizen took a Phoenix-Delhi Continental airlines flight
  • May 27: American citizen took a Delhi Chennai Kingfisher airlines flight
  • June 10: American citizen was supposed to board a Kingfisher airlines flight on 10 th of June but was transferred to Jet Airways flight at the last moment where the ammunition was detected
