Will drop by in Pakistan to meet Nawaz Sharif today, tweets Narendra Modi
In an informal announcement, Modi tweeted that he is looking forward to meeting Nawaz Sharif in Lahore today.

In a significant move in the Indo-Pak ties, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is making an unscheduled visit to Pakistan. In a tweet on Friday, Modi stated that he will be making a short visit to Lahore on his way back from Afghanistan.

"Looking forward to meeting PM Nawaz Sharif in Lahore today afternoon, where I will drop by on my way back to Delhi," he said. Coincidentally, it is also Sharif's birthday on Friday.

Just a few minutes before he made an informal announcement of his visit on Twitter, Modi tweeted that he spoke to Nawaz Sharif and wished him on his birthday.

Earlier in the day too, Modi tweeted greetings to Sharif on his 66th birthday and wished him good health. "I wish the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr Nawaz Sharif on his birthday and pray that he remains in wonderful health," tweeted Modi from Afghanistan where he landed in the wee hours while returning from Moscow.

Modi is currently in Afghanistan and was scheduled to return to India later in the day today. He had gone to Russia and made a pit-stop to Afghanistan where he inaugurated Afghan Parliament.

Soon after the announcement, Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj applauded Modi for the move. "That's like a statesman. Padosi se aise hi rishte hone chahiyen. (We should have such relations with our neighbours)," she tweeted.

The relations between India and Pakistan have witnessed some positive developments after chill for several months. The two countries recently decided to launch a comprehensive dialogue after Modi and Sharif met in Paris.
