WSH: Delhi beat Punjab 7-5 in high-voltage match

However, Delhi remained out of semi-finals contention while Punjab still made it to the last four.

New Delhi: Pakistan drag-flicker Shakeel Abbasi notched up a hat-trick as Delhi Wizards, who are already out of contention for the World Series Hockey (WSH) semi-finals, eked out a thrilling 7-5 victory over Sher-E-Punjab in their last match here on Friday night.

In a high-voltage match, Abbasi (37th, 42nd, 60th) scored thrice, Vivek Gupta (28th, 53rd) notched up two field goals and Victo Singh (13th) and Rajpal Singh (57th) too sounded the board to give Delhi a consolation win at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium.

With this win, Delhi finished their campaign at fifth position behind Pune Strykers who, along with Punjab, Karnataka Lions and Chandigarh Comets, are into the semi-finals.

For Punjab, Prabhjot Singh was the hero as he blasted three goals at the 30th, 67th and 69th minute to conjure up some hope for his team. Gagandeep Singh (8th) and Karmjit Singh (52nd) also scored two field goals to help their team's cause, but it was not enough in the end.

In the semi-finals on Sunday, Punjab will take on Karnataka while Chandigarh face Pune.
