Midnight snacking doesn’t necessarily mean craving for a scoop of ice-cream or a slice of choco-truffle cake. Hunger pangs are a reality for weight watchers, fitness freaks too who like working late nights. An early dinner at 7 PM doesn’t seem to work for night owls. As per experts, it is always good to keep healthy snacks within reach rather than denying that you’re hungry. Let’s take a look at 5 foods that are healthy enough for midnight snacking and light enough to avoid making you feel bloated.

1. Cottage Cheese

Cottage cheese is packed with casein protein that releases slowly in the body, keeping you full through the night. Cottage cheese further helps to keep a tab on your appetite, therefore, refraining you from another bout of snacking.

2. Corn Flakes + Milk

Opt for a bowl of cornflakes, oatmeal or bran flakes in its original form with an added cup of hot milk. The protein and calcium goodness of milk and complex carbohydrates of these whole-grain cereals will keep you full and also induce sleep. Stay clear from sugar-coated flavored cereals to keep a tab on your health.

3. An Apple or a Banana

A banana or an apple can satiate hunger and keep you full. Both the fruits are rich in dietary fiber and have a hunger-satisfying ability. Bananas release tryptophan, uplift mood with its natural sugar content and contain magnesium and potassium that relax muscles.

4. Greek Yogurt

Craving for an ice-cream can be easily averted by grabbing a serving of Greek Yogurt with added strawberries or a fruit of your choice. Yogurt also lends you the goodness of dairy and provides protein and probiotics.

Grab a handful of almonds, walnuts or pistachios for a healthy dose of protein, vitamins and other essential nutrients. Also, you can create your own chocolate fruit ‘n’ nut mini bars at home by mixing Dark Chocolate (70% or higher cocoa content), almonds, raisins, pistachios, dried cranberries, walnuts… the list is endless and you are free to pick your favorite nut!
