Consuming raw foods continuously for weeks on a stretch is not easy. However, as per an experience shared by Dr. Ilene Ruhoy – Neurologist, Seattle, she turned to raw food diet and consumed only raw foods for 3 weeks or 21 days at a stretch. The driving force behind her choice to turn to raw veganism was primarily to show her patients the different raw foods make to our body. Secondly, her brain tumor was knocking back and she had to be prepared for radiation therapy.

Dr. Ruhoy shares that it is not easy to go on a raw foods diet where you consume foods uncooked, unprocessed and without much human interference into their natural form. However, it is very much required to restore our body’s primary functions of chewing, digesting, absorbing, metabolizing and utilizing the food consumed.

The results of this 3-week raw foods diet were astounding for Dr. Ruhoy who observed the following changes:

1. A clear skin with better skin texture
2. Deep sleep
3. Easy bowel movement
4. Losing 9 pounds (in 3 weeks)
5. “Incredible amounts of energy”
6. Being more positive and motivated than ever
7. Rediscovering the real taste of foods, undistorted.
Although it is not easy to completely go on a raw food diet, however consuming more vegetables and fruits without much processing definitely helps in shredding weight as the unprocessed food is light, low in sodium, offers fewer calories and high fiber.
An absolute raw diet should be taken cautiously. Fruits and vegetables must be washed carefully to remove bacteria and other infiltrators (pesticides), etc. Also, you need to select a variety of foods to give you complete nutrition. You must consult a nutritionist to address age-appropriate needs.
For most of us, it is not feasible to go on an absolute raw food diet. But restricting processed and canned foods is something all health watchers must do. Include more fruits, salads and sprouts in your diet to reap similar benefits.
