Whether it’s New Year or Summer or any other getaway, a vacay at a beach can have everyone’s nod in your group. While you are great at packing the best of medications to steer clear of diarrhoea, nausea or vomiting, there’s one important thing that you should mind on your beachy holiday – keeping your mouth closed.
The point is to not let the sea water gulped down your throat to avoid ingesting water laden with antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
A new study in the UK found that frequent surfers are at a high risk of having E.coli in their bodies that is resistant to most over-the-counter antibiotic drugs. The result could be detrimental to your health as these resistant bacteria can colonize in your gut and create more serious health issues.
Therefore, while experts are not suggesting avoiding beach holidays, but your entire group or family should be mindful while playing in the sea water and ensure that they do not gulp down water while splashing it at each other or while swimming.
This is important especially when it comes to kids. It is better to let them play on the beach side or in shallow waters. Also, guide your kids not to talk much when playing inside the water. Prevention is better than cure and caution is something that keeps us well guarded against situations that can wreak havoc on our overall health.
So, next time you plan your beachy holiday, you know what you must be most mindful about!
