What's India's Role at COP 24?: Combating Climate Change

COP24 is the informal name for the 24th Conference of thearties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. The discussions are crucial because the US - the world's most polluting nation after China, has threatened to pull out of the Paris Agreement. India is pushing for COP 24 to be able to frame guidelines that are pragmatic and take into consideration the challenges that a developing country faces. In other words, the starting point for different countries is different. So countries like India have development priorities - such as eradicating poverty, ensuring food security, boosting health infrastructure - that need to be factored in while developing guidelines.​
